Beka update

by Grant

Well, Rebekah is having a harder time. She pulled a muscle the other day (we think) and is in a lot of pain. Basically she's bed-ridden. Well, she's couch-ridden. I had to come home today and work but by doing that she was able to get some rest. Working in the afternoon works pretty well because the 3 youngest are asleep.

anyway, she feels a bit better now so we're gonna go out to eat for my birthday. All that I've had to eat today was some peanuts so if we don't get out of here soon, I'm gonna gnaw my arm off. After all, they're doing wonders in prosthetics these days...

Office Space...

...Should be required viewing for executives. This movie speaks to me so much more each time I watch it. I just regret the language in it. Mostly in some gansta rap playing when some guys take out their anger on a flaky printer in an empty field.

Pretty decent saturday. I got up early and activated the electronic babysitter for the boys while Rebekah slept. Her sweet slumber was interrupted a couple hours later by the boys pushing a little basket around screaming. I got some pictures as the boys slid around and crashed. They were having fun. I was enjoying the fact that they weren't fighting or bugging me.

I spent two or three hours this afternoon trying to resurrect my gerber multitool from a cremation attempt by my wife last year. She claims it was an accident, but we didn't burn something of hers now did we?
Anyway, we burned some boxes and the Gerber was in the boxes. Luckily I fished it out, but it had melted plastic into the mechanism and was non functional. So I got a propane torch and my dremel tool and went to work. It took me a couple hours, but the final result is functional if not fashionable.

Oh, and back to life at the WG (my work). Somebody actually quit this week. Fed up with it. Not my department, but I'd known the person for a few years. Good news (I guess) is that if there are any more layofss, one of the guys in my department is volunteering. Young guy with lots of options and he's probably being a bit facetious, but I know that he'd be fine with it. He says that he thinks his stress level will be less if he just stays home and plays "Call of Duty 4" all day. I tend to agree.

Church tomorrow!

yeah, i know

by Grant

My last post was incredibly stupid. I blame it on some sort of a nervous breakdown. Even if I keep my job, which although it may be more solid than I had thought is no means guaranteed, others are suffering and will continue to suffer.

Anyway, Rebekah is still hanging in there although she's about had it with Titus. Anybody want him? He's really cute. Housebroken and everything.

I joke, I joke.

Some good news!

by Grant

It's all about me. me. me. Sorry, I'm just very happy. Hey, that rhymes! I met with my new boss and she said that I was considered core and she wanted to utilize me more. So, that's all I can ask for. It may not seem like much, but I take it to mean that I have a job for at least a few more months. Whoopee!

Thanks again for your prayers. Maybe now we can buy an 8 passenger vehicle!

Small amount of good news

by Grant

background: On Wednesday of last week, right after the layoffs but before any announcement a vendor cut power to the entire data center. This is a total disaster as we have 150 normal servers and several other systems that went down hard. Most will come up ok, but our primary system is known to get corrupted. To make matters worse, the guy that takes care of that system was out on vacation without his laptop. To make my life worse, I was supposedly his backup.

I did pretty good in my book and I guess the powers that be agreed with me because I (along with 4 others) were singled out in an e-mail sent to all the IT (that's left) and the CEO/VPs.

One small bit of good news on a monday that's shaping up to be ugly as other divisions cut more people today.

Thanks to everybody that's praying for me (and my family). And to the heathen unbelievers, you know who you are, thanks for at least taking the time to read my blog post.

argh!!!

I just lost my blog post, so I'm just gonna summarize it quicklike as I'm tired and have to bathe my kids for church tomorrow.

1. Work is bad
2. Rebekah is OK. She's at 26 weeks right now.
3. Kids are good except Titus broke his finger.

Black Wednesday

They laid off 20% of IT (Information Technology). I'm still employed for now.
